Gary DeRenzo

FOUNDER

With a background in team sports throughout high school and college, DeRenzo gravitated to lifelong fitness activities before transitioning to the running world in his late twenties. Throughout his 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s he focused on tournament racquetball and competitive golf. With family and work obligations becoming more demanding, the need for alternative fitness interests began to increase.

At the age of 41, DeRenzo lost his best friend to cancer. As a tribute to his life, DeRenzo trained and completed his first Marathon in Atlantic City. Since discovering running he has completed 4 marathons, 16 half-marathons, numerous 10 and 5K races and a variety of Spartan, Ragnar, and Tough Mudder events.

Retiring this July after 33 years as a high school Athletic Director, DeRenzo has set his sights on completing his first Ultramarathon this October. As a lifelong fitness enthusiast, it is his goal to provide opportunities for seasoned and novice athletes to find the best versions of themselves through a variety of athletic interests, not limited to simply running.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to continue this fitness journey with two former students, Carina Hatfield and Dan Price, who are outstanding individuals and role models for the entire fitness community in the Pottstown area.”

Daniel Price

FOUNDER

As a physically active person for most of his life, Daniel received 10 varsity letters at Pottsgrove High School playing soccer, basketball, track and tennis. However, it wasn’t until his late 20’s that he developed a passion for distance running and endurance sports. It was during a period of time from January of 2011 through November 2011 that Daniel used running and training to go from 205 lbs to 165 lbs while training for his first marathon in Philadelphia.

That passion for running and endurance sports has continued over the past decade and grew to a love of cycling and swimming. In addition to those sports, Daniel is an avid walker in the Pottstown community and is a 2019 America Walks Walking College fellow. Daniel also has a passion for yoga and meditation and believes in encouraging others to embrace a healthy living lifestyle. Over the past decade, Daniel has participated in 32 5k’s, a dozen half marathons, two marathons and completed four Ironman 70.3 races. He is currently training for Ironman 70.3 in Augusta Maine this July and Steamtown marathon in October.

“I am beyond grateful to have started Manatawny Athletic with Carina & Gary. I have known both of them for the past 25 years and respect them both immensely. This is a great opportunity to bring people from our community together in a fun and active way. Looking forward to great things to come!”

Carina Hatfield

FOUNDER

Carina started running with middle school track, but didn’t really start racing until she was in her 20’s. With over 100 races completed ranging in distance from 5k-50k she has a goal of running a marathon in every state. While not the fastest she always tries her best and to ‘beat yesterday’. Carina enjoys being the captain of her Ragnar Relay team with friends each year since 2010 and encouraging others to get out there and give running a try. She is currently training for a 52k nighttime trail run in Arizona in August.
